The Waters Broke

You heavens above, rain down my righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness flourish with it; I, the Lord, have created it. (Isaiah 45 v 8) What a faithful God we serve. He is mine and I am His and His banner over me is love. A love that never fails. At the height of expectancy, waters did break; twice this week from the sky and once, in our bedroom, like a wave crashing free from the confines of the womb. Every leaf has turned its thirsty face upward, thankful for salvation, hoping for more of where it came from; and we have a brand new son. Waters fell, there was struggle and then first valiant breaths as we held the fulfilment of promises too precious to fully understand or speak of. Is it possible to witness birth and not bend the knee? I have laboured and, yet, I hold a prize that is not because of anything I have done. They will say of me, “In the Lord alone are deliverance and strength.”…All the descendants of Israel will find deliverance in the Lord and will make their boast in him. (Isaiah 45 v 24 & 25)

We are humbled.

In the aftermath of our magnificent deliverance, the waters have continued to fall. Waters of kindness, celebration, thoughtfulness, blessing and tender nourishment. A hot bath was run for me with pure water that might well have been expensive perfume. Every bruise was mended as midwife, friend and daughter held and washed and stood near to serve and guard. People, near and far, have showered us, as a family, in an astounding manner. Meals appear to have arrived on the wings of the wind and thoughtful gifts have dropped like faultless, ripe fruit dripping with early morning dew. The sun rises with a grin aimed at us and sets with kisses for our brows. Coconut water to rehydrate and bone broth to revive the tired body, golden milk for the precious babe with his silky skin, treats of every kind for a family in awe.

It’s one thing for heavens to open and waters to break, but I am just beginning to catch a glimpse of the exquisite repercussions. When the waters break, things soften and open up whether it’s the womb or the heart or the earth itself. Salvation springs up and all things good, true, right and beautiful, flourish. Like the opening scripture says, the rain is just the start of something. Waters have broken and a wave is building. May we understand enough of what our God is doing in this time and place so that we can catch this one for a ride of a lifetime!
