They are predicting a drought. I’m not sure who the weather experts are, but someone who knows about such things must have started the conversation and now all sorts of lovely Zimbabweans have begun to spread the word.
I know we can’t be like ostriches with their heads in the sand, but we also don’t need to buy into something that hasn’t even happened yet. Partnering with such a depressing forecast is something we can avoid.
In Hebrews 11 v 3 it says, “By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out things that are visible.” Invisible words, spoken by God, created reality that we experience with all our senses! Now, if the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us (Romans 8 v 11), what are we creating when we open our mouths? Words are potent; anything that can wound and break, heal and create should be used with care.
Instead of panicking and spreading the doom, let us be people who take this news to the Living God, the One who makes streams in the desert. Let’s tell Him our concerns because, in the end, if anyone can send the rain it’s Him.
Whisper. Groan. Watch the sky
Look to Him. Plants won’t die
Speak to the breezes, speak to the wind
Repent and ask for mercy when we have sinned
Call for the thunder, call for the rain
Without God Almighty, what can we gain?
Do not spread word of famine in the land
Rather tell a story of something grand
A God who sees, who knows, who cares
A King who holds lightning like swords and flares
The land is thirsty, the people even more so
We all need revival if we’re going to grow
Pour out Your Spirit Lord, and send us rain too
Please open the sea again so we can walk through.
Amen
